Desborough Northants Butchers - First Time Trying Their Streaky Bacon

Saturday is the only day I can get to the local butchers here in Desborough, Northamptonshire as I'm not normally home until gone 16:30 and more often than not as I'm passing the shop the closed sign is on display so I have to wait until the weekend to frequent this local shop.

It wasn't until I got home and opened up the bag that I realised that from the feint aroma coming from the bacon that this is smoked streaky bacon and if I'm honest I'm not a big fan of smoked bacon so not sure if I'm going to enjoy this is or not.

Time to put it in the frying pan and decide if I'm going to have it with a fried egg or some mushrooms.

As you can see, the mushrooms won!  As every sane person knows, the best bread to use for a bacon sandwich is fresh white crusty bread...

The smell from the frying pan is simply amazing and does not compare to the supermarket bought streaky bacon I normally buy.

As you can see it's sizzling away very nicely and the sliced mushrooms are cooking away in the bacon fat - delicious!

Time to start building my sandwich and it looks amazing and I've not even added the mushrooms yet...

Ready for tasting...

After taking just one bite I could taste it was nothing like the supermarket smoked bacon I've had before - this one is delicious.  For me the smoked bacon from supermarkets is too strong and over powering, this one is very subtle and enhances the flavour instead of overpowering it.

The butter/spread from the bread is melting in to the mushrooms and bacon making it taste even better!

I've had the most amazing lamb chops and chicken breast from the local butchers here in Desborough before but this is the first (and I'm certain not the last time) I've tried his streaky bacon.
