Despite never, ever containing any crab meat whatsoever we used to call these Crab Sticks in the UK and then one day they all had a name change an became simply known forever more as Seafood Sticks instead.
They are actually made of surimi which is basically mashed up white fish (typically pollock) which is then made in to the stick shape we all know so well and a red die applied which apparently is to mimic crab meat - I've eaten a few dressed crabs in my life (I have one in my fridge right now) but never seen any part of it look like one of these before!
A cheap, tasty and low fat snack - they go great with a dollop of seafood sauce.
