Blooming Onions are best done in a deep fat fryer but that's not exactly the most healthy way of cooking is it? With air fryer ownership on the rise, this quick and easy recipe shows you how you can make a healthier (less fatty) version of a Blooming Onion..

Ingredients
- 1 Large Onion
- 1 Cup of Milk
- 1 Large Egg
- 1 Cup of Plain Flour
- ½ tsp Cayenne Pepper
- ⅛ tsp Cumin
- ½ tsp Paprika
- ½ tsp Salt
- ¼ tsp Black Pepper
- ⅛ tsp Dried Thyme
- ¼ tsp Teaspoon Dried Oregano
- Spray Oil

- Dishes/Bowls
- Air Fryer
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix all the dry ingredients together

- In another bowl whisk the egg and milk together

- Prepare the onion
- Chop off a thin slice off of the top

- Trim the root

- Slice the onion to look like a flower with petals but Do Not slice all the way through to the bottom (top-tip: use a jar lid as shown)

- Separate all the 'petals'

- Turn the onion up-side-down and leave to rest for 5-10 minutes
- Preheat the Air Fryer at 190°C for 10 minutes
- Put the onion in a bowl and pour over the egg mix and ensure all the onion gets coated

- Dip in the flour mix and ensure all the 'petals' are evenly coated

- Repeat steps 5 and 6
- Place in the hot air fryer basket (rearrange the 'petals' as necessary)
- Air Fry for 20 minutes at 180° until it is golden brown
