Cost at time of review: £2.99 for 200g Purchased From: www.jollychef.co.uk
I love KFC and in particular I love their gravy but have never been able to replicate it at home so when I can across the Jolly Chefs Southern Fried Gravy I just had to give it a go.
It's easy to make, all you need to do is put 50g in to a saucepan and slowly add 250ml of cold water whilst gently whisking it (this will make you a mug size portion of the gravy). Bring to a simmer and keep the whisk moving and within a matter of a few minutes you'll have a thick, tasty and delicious gravy!
I used to work with a former KFC manager and it was him that introduced me to their gravy and he said you know when the gravy is made correctly when you did a chip/fry in to it, it should come out double in size and if you follow the Jolly Chefs instructions (as per above) then this is exactly what happens!
So, the question you've all been waiting to hear the answer to, does it taste like KFC gravy? The short answer is no. The long answer is nooooooo! 😉🤣
Does it matter? Heck no!! I have to say this is one of the most delicious gravies I have every been lucky enough to try and I can see myself having this with a roast dinner or simply a plate of chips to dunk in it.
The next photograph shows you just how thick this gravy can be without ruining any of the flavour!
I have to be honest, I'm torn between giving this amazing gravy a 4.5 and a 5 star rating. The only negative thing I can think of is it doesn't taste like KFCs gravy which (up until now) was my most favourite gravy. You know what, I'm gonna give it the full 5 Stars!
According to their website, it's supposed to be a "mouth-watering KFC-style chicken gravy that’s full of flavour". Well I'm sorry but it doesn't taste much like KFC gravy at all (hence me being torn between 4.5 and 5 stars).
They have got the second part of that statement spot on though, it is definitely full of flavour, in fact I would go as far as to say it is one of the most delicious, scrumptious, moreish, thick and tasty gravies that I have ever tried and it certainly wont disappoint and it definitely deserves a full 5 stars!
As I've never tried this gravy before I only purchased a small 'sample' pack of 200g but they do bigger sizes all the way up to a 1.7kg tub for those who happen to run a fried chicken restaurant and/or takeaway - I think that's a little to big for me but they do a more reasonably sized 450g which is the one I shall go for next time when I order from them.
