Prawn Egg Foo Yung

One of the most popular dishes from a Chinese Takeaway (next to Egg Fried Rice and Chips) is the delicious Egg Foo Yung!  I love putting prawns in my Foo Yung but you can put chicken, beef, pork or if you're a vegetarian then maybe some tofu or simply leave that side of things out of the dish!

Portions: 2

Ingredients

  • 1tbsp Oil (Groundnut or Vegetable)
  • 1 Small Onion (sliced)
  • 30g Sliced Mushrooms
  • Prawns
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • ½ tsp MSG
  • ¼ tsp White Pepper
  • 4 Beaten Eggs
  • 30g Peas
  • Handful of Beansprouts

Equipment

  • Large Pan
  • Cooking Rings
  • Ladle
  • Mixing Bowl

Instructions

  1. Add the oil to a hot pan and add the Onion and Mushrooms
  2. Give it a good stir and keep stirring as you go!
  3. When the onions and mushrooms have softened add the Prawns
  4. Stir fry for 40 seconds or so and then add the Salt and MSG and keep stirring!
  5. Add the Peas and Bean Sprouts and keep stirring for around 1 minute
  6. Pour the contents of the pan in to the bowl of Beaten Eggs and mix well
  7. Place the 2 Cooking Rings in the pan and add a little oil to them
  8. Ladle in the mixture in to each ring
  9. When the egg starts to solidify, remove the ring and turn the foo yung portion over
  10. When it is cooked to your liking, remove from the heat and serve!

Serving Suggestion(s)

Great on it's own or serve with egg fried rice and/or Chinese style gravy!
