Equipment
- Chopping Board
- Apple Slicer
- Deep Fryer with oil
Instructions
- Prepare you Onion(s) by removing the outer layer ensuring you leave the root on
- Don't remove the root, instead trim it like this so your Blooming Onion doesn't fall apart
- Although you can use a knife (if you're careful) an Apple Slicer is perfect for creating the Blooming effect
- Gently prise the 'petals' apart
- Place the onion in the fridge for 30 minutes or so to dry out the 'petals' to ensure the batter sticks to the onion
- Remove the onion from the fridge and bring to room temperature
- Turn on the Fryer and heat to 180°C
- Ensure the petals of the Onion are spread apart and immerse in the batter mix
- Shake off any excess and place in the fryer Root Side Up for 3-4 minutes
- Turn the Onion over and continue to fry for another 3-4 minutes until golden brown

- Remove the centre part of the onion (this wont be as nice and crispy as the 'petals'
Serving Suggestion(s)
